REVIEWS:

Get Bent ! Webzine (USA)

I must be honest, it took me a little while to get over the stupid band name as well, but I can assure all you fine readers of GET BENT: this band is no joke. Thee Marvin Gays are from Belgium and even though your reviewer is from the Netherlands, a country with a long tradition of making fun of the Belgians, I won’t do that today. What I will do is tell you why this album is really cool: because Thee Marvin Gays know how to write and play really tight, uptempo garage rock tunes.

The album sounds like one of the Nuggets compilations played by people on speed. Twangy reverb-soaked guitars team up with a tight rhythm section to lay the foundation for some snotty vocals. All combined, it sounds surprisingly poppy and the songs have a tendency to get stuck in your head. Only point of critique is that production-wise this album goes a bit overboard with the lo-fi sounds. I think Thee Marvin Gays would really benefit from a bigger sound without this much treble. Other than that, this is a great album that you should definitely get a hold off.

(lg)

I’m gay for Thee Marvin Gays.

BANANA's MAGAZINE (NYC, USA) # 4

'I'm tired of referencing the Black Lips all the time. It always seems like such a cliché thing to do when writing a review but I can't help it when the Atlanta band seems like such a big influence on so many bands today.
Ok so you might have gessed, thee marvin gays have a Black Lips-ish sound.
But hey, that isn't always a bad thing, especially when you're facing a band with good creativity. Point proven with Thee Marvin Gays. The songs are sufficienty catchy, without sounding too poppy and the raw sound and straightforwardness of the songs are here to remind us that we're dealing with a garage band. Also, I have to mention that the record comes in a great silkscreen sleeve and is hand-numbered by the band, always a plus in my book (along with having a bizarro name like thee marvin gays!). All in all, this is a great debut album for those Belgians!'
